Addressing the recent Governors Campus Preparedness Conference in Virginia, George Mason Universitys Chief of Police dared to utter the usually unspoken truththat a campus lockdown isnt just impractical, its impossible. "I know I cant lock down George Mason," he said. But what can and should be done to close down an open environment under siege? What should institutions say about the risk?
