401(k) Contributions: 29 Percent of Employers Have Suspended their 401(k) Match
Since June 2008, numerous brand-name organizations have suspended their 401(k) matching contributions. Besides the Big Three automakers, such suspensions have occurred at Motorola, FedEx, Starbucks, Sears, Saks, Sprint Nextel, Macys, UPS, Wynn Resorts, Diebold, 7-Eleven, Callaway Golf, Harrahs Entertainment, Hewlett-Packard, J. Crew, Paychex, Midas, AARP, Xerox, Forbes, National Public Radio, Monster Worldwide, and American Red Cross in Greater New York.
