Change is accelerating in technology, as most CPA firm managers are aware. There is more information to deal with, and storing that data requires more resources, space, and management. This is true especially for firms that are moving to digital operations or becoming "less paper" firms.
It’s said that people will pay for what matters. This includes CPA firm partners, as shown by the results of the Association for Accounting Administration’s most recent compensation survey. Partners increasingly are "valuing" their firm administration professionals: The average W-2 compensation for 2006 was $77,934.
Behind every outstanding firm administrator is a managing partner who is committed to a great partnership with that firm administrator. That arrangement is, of course, the ideal. Firms with such a partnership—or those that are working toward one—will find much to learn from the commentary provided during a managing partner panel at the Association for Accounting Administration’s Practice Management Conference in Providence, Rhode Island.
Keeping staff happy is a major goal at CPA firms these days and figures increasingly in recruitment and retention initiatives. But you might be in for some surprises if you compare what you believe to be the most important staff satisfaction factors to actual staff input. That’s the interesting outcome of a recent survey by the Society for Human Resource Management, which polled both member HR professionals and employees at their organizations.
