Withholding & Depositing Tax on Payments from AP

When is it?

  June 5, 2008 at 02:00PM ET

Do you know what to do with that 28% the IRS requires you to backup withhold from certain 1099 reportable payments? Do you know in which instances backup withholding is required?

Register today for this IOMA audio conference and resident AP expert Marianne Couch will take you step-by-step through the tax withholding, depositing, and recordkeeping process.

Form 1099 compliance is particularly crucial now because the IRS and Congress are cracking down. The IRS has several new enforcement initiatives under way—plus it has teamed up with states to ferret out Form 1099 abuses. And Congress is considering tough new laws that will expand Form 1099 reporting and increase penalties for noncompliance.

Register today to attend this 90-minute audio conference and you’ll learn:

  • The four triggers for backup withholding
  • Who’s liable for the tax if it’s not withheld
  • How to report the withheld amount and the amount of the payment
  • Deadlines for depositing the tax
  • Penalties for failing to deposit tax when required
  • How to account for the withheld and deposited tax
  • How to avoid having to do it altogether
